RjDj Shake creates soundtrack to your life based on your movements with IPhone or iPod Touch

The RjDj team has released a followup to its original app called RjDj Shake. This application has a similar purpose, using external input to dynamically generate music. But instead of using sound, Shake relies on the iPhone or iPod Touch accelerometer to adjust the audio any time the phone senses movement. Each song responds to movement in a different way, some scenes are designed for passive movement, playing tiny bells whenever you take a step, while others are meant to be used when you’re jumping, dancing, or waving your iPhone around. You can also record your songs for future listening. This application is available on iTune Store.

My friend Zara and I made this music video of one of her songs using a Panasonic Lumix LX-3 point-and-shoot still camera that has 720p video capabilities. We shot it in my livingroom then did the initial composite/colour in Shake 4.1.1 and then final composite, sound synch and edit in Final Cut Pro 6.0.5. by Ed Araquel

RobotLab Juke Bots

RobotLab have programmed two Kuka industrial robotic arms to perform as scratch DJs. The robots are programmed to play several selections from the eleven records that surround the pair of robots on stands. In front of each Kuka is a Technics SL-1200. The robot then retrieves one of the records with as much flair as possible and then places it under the tone arm – the records never actually lay on the 1200’s platter. The robot then precisely lifts the record up – ever so gently – to drop the needle into a groove for a performance dubbed. While the scratching is not the slickest, its pretty amazing to see these bots in action. In addition, the bots can perform the exact same set over and over.
